“The images derive from photos using photography as a distancing element. It invites an odd mix of conflicting information. The figures directly address the viewer, a nostalgia that can be both absurd and moving. If it were not for the object, painting would be meaningless. Yet, to simply copy the subject seems to make something inferior to it. The painting then must develop or evolve as the subject. The 'subject' then becomes the art of painting.”
